DESCRIPTION OF WORK As an Environmental Trainee, you will participate in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program where there will be greater oversight of the employee's duties to perform the Sewage Planning Specialist 1 duties and implement the objectives of the Clean Water Program. In this role, you will enforce the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act in a specific area to protect public health and reduce pollution. You will interact with the community, including local officials, legislators, and residents, to clarify the program and resolve any issues. Your main tasks will include analyzing plans, regulations, and policies; conducting site assessments for on-lot and stream discharge systems; and evaluating sewage enforcement officers' performance. You will also review sewage planning modules, including exemption requests, and make recommendations for approval or denial. Additionally, you will prepare detailed technical analyses and assist in evaluating official sewage facility plans and their updates. Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes- Barre. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,890.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
