The successful candidate will work on projects to explore mitochondrial respiration and molecular signaling in muscle stem cell-based tissue repair and regeneration in aging and disease, primarily using mice and cell culture models. A candidate with experience in high resolution mitochondrial respirometry (Oroboros system) and molecular/cell biology is preferred.
The successful applicant will work primarily work with Dr. Stephen Alway but will have opportunities to work with Dr. David Ashbrook in the Department of Genetics, Genomics and Informatics, (an expert in the role of mitochondria in genetics and aging) and Dr. Junaith Mohamed (an expert in molecular regulation of muscle development) on our collaborative projects.
Qualifications
Earned PhD in physiology/exercise physiology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a closely related field.
At least two first-author publication(s) in peer-reviewed journals, familiarity/experience with biochemical, molecular, cell culture, cell biological assays, data management and data analysis, experience or willingness to learn techniques in high resolution mitochondrial respirometry, experience in/willingness to learn in vivo muscle function physiology techniques, familiarity with research/small animal surgeries with mice and strong written and oral communication skills.
