Position: Director of Emergency Department
Compensation:
- Salary: Confidential ($101,185.00 - $136,600.00 USD)
- Signing Bonus: None
- Relocation Package: Partial (may be offered depending on location variables)
Must-Have Qualifications:
1. Current RN license in Iowa or a compact state nursing license allowing practice in Iowa
2. Current BLS certification
3. 3-5 years of clinical experience, including 1-2 years in a clinical leadership role
Job Summary:
The Director of the Emergency Department provides both clinical and administrative leadership in emergency medicine, guiding the department to align with the organization's vision, mission, and standards.
Key Duties:
- Participate in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making
- Accept accountability for services provided and evaluate care quality
- Supervise personnel and coordinate nursing services with other healthcare disciplines
- Oversee recruitment, selection, and retention of staff and manage scheduling
- Develop and monitor department budgets and ensure staff orientation, credentialing, and ongoing professional development
- Maintain oversight of the hospital trauma program and compliance with state trauma requirements
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state, and local regulations
- Involve nursing staff in evaluative research activities and foster an educational climate for students
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Effective communication with patients, visitors, and staff
- Ability to resolve customer complaints and maintain records
- Strong interpersonal skills, leadership, and public speaking capabilities
- Proficiency with Word Processing, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Data analysis and presentation skills, along with sound judgment under pressure
Education:
- Bachelors degree in nursing or related field, or Associate Degree in Nursing with equivalent competencies and enrollment in a bachelors program
- Masters degree preferred
Experience:
3-5 years of relevant clinical experience with at least 1-2 years in a clinical leadership position
Certification/Licenses:
- Iowa RN license or compact state nursing license
- Current BLS certification
- ACLS and PALS certifications (within six months of hire)
- TNCC certification (within one year of hire)
