Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) is actively seeking a self-motivated, organized, and dedicated individual to join our team as a coastal environmental scientist supporting our CAMA, Wetlands and Ecological Restoration teams. The selected candidate(s) will be working out of our Wilmington, North Carolina office.
Job Duties
Primary work duties of this position will include the ecological inventories/field data collection, creation of customized maps, compiling and integrating field data into map deliverables, managing GIS data, technical report writing, permit application preparation and submittal, and project stakeholder meeting coordination and facilitation.
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications: ● Respondents should hold, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in marine science or environmental science. Ideally, the candidate will hold a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Coastal Resource Management, Natural Resource Sciences or a related field. ● Candidates should possess knowledge of coastal ecology and management issues in North Carolina. Candidates should also possess significant working knowledge of state and federal permitting programs related to coastal development. Experience in wetland ecology, natural resource assessments, and ecological restoration is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, staff, and the public are required. ● Course work, training, or commensurate applied experience in GIS software is required. ● 2 or more years of experience in performing coastal permitting or Section 404 wetland permitting is preferred. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in environmental consulting or engineering applications. ● Candidates should possess skills in using additional office software (Microsoft Word/Excel/Google Docs etc.), multi-tasking, and working cooperatively in a team environment. ● Familiarity with North Carolina coastal geography and ecology, the NC Coastal Area Management Act, knowledge of stakeholders involved with the NC Coastal Management program, state and federal government coastal programs, training and experience in wetlands ecology/identification and coastal management issues is strongly preferred. The position will also require work in difficult field/site conditions typical for wetland assessments in the Coastal Plain of North and South Carolina.
