Job Description

Reports to: Director of Athletics

Job Summary: 

BB&N is seeking a Boys Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach and a Boys JV Head Basketball Coach. These are stipend, part-time positions during the winter season. The Coaches will report to the Director of Athletics and work closely with the Associate Director of Athletics for the US.  The BB&N Athletic Department expects its coaches to operate within the athletic philosophy of BB&N and adhere to the BB&N coaches’ manual.  

The BB&N Athletic Department expects its coaches to operate within the athletic philosophy of BB&N and adhere to the BB&N coaches’ manual as well as the Independent School League (ISL) and the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) rules and guidelines.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • practice planning and game oversight, 

  • mentoring and instructing players in skill development, character development, and teamwork.  

  • communicating with parents/guardians relevant information regarding games, practices, and other team commitments

  • commitment to the support and development of those students with an ability and/or desire to compete at the collegiate level is important for varsity programs.

The ideal candidate is approachable, knowledgeable, and eager to be an active member of a dynamic athletic and learning community. Bachelor’s degree required. 

In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Commitment to the academic success and character development of the students

  • Passion for their sport and for working with middle and high school aged students

  • Commitment to an inclusive and equitable approach to all student athletes

  • Communicates effectively and responsibly with students, parents and colleagues 

  • High standards of professional conduct

Upper School Coaching Schedule

  • Pre-season Coaches Meeting on Tuesday, November 12th around 5:30pm

  • The Varsity season begins on Monday, November 18th, and can go up until Sunday, March 9th.  The sub-varsity season begins on Thursday, November 21st, and goes until March 1st.  

  • Practice ranges from 3:45pm to 6:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

  • Games are usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays and coaches should be on-site at least 45 minutes before the game time.  

  • Sub-varsity teams do not have practices the week of exams, December 16th - December 20th.

Holidays when school is not in session include:

  • BB&N Winter Break (12/21/2004-1/6/2025)*

  • Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

  • Presidents Day and the Day after Presidents Day*

*varsity practices may occur during the break

Compensation: 

At BB&N a Varsity second assistant coach normally earns a season-long stipend of between $3,000.00 - $3,500.00 and a JV head coach normally earns a season-long stipend of between $4,000.00 - $6,000.00
